There is an air of mystery shrouding the true meaning behind the acronym of M.A.N.D.Y., an alias which embodies the mutual talents of childhood friends Philipp Jung and Patrick Bodmer. The pair readily indulge this curiosity by toying with various clever possibilities, including Me AND You, but the truth is likely a giggle under each of their talented breaths. P and P have carved a unique niche in electronic music by consistently selecting productions that induce their audience into a somatic frenzy. On the platform of their aptly titled Get Physical label, M.A.N.D.Y. has achieved massive success in colluding to create music that simply makes bodies move. Their foot stamping, hair flying passion is the ultimate expression of a dance music phenomenon for many years.

When M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade joined as musical soul mates with DJ T., first in Frankfurt, then in Berlin, Get Physical produced a caliber of electricity that rippled throughout the EDM community and into the relative mainstream. Philipp’s charm and savvy, Patrick’s allusive artistry, DJ T.’s killer entrepreneurial sense and Booka Shade’s collaborative genius combined to form a masterpiece of intelligent design that reflects romantic sensibility and technical virtuosity. Together, they push the boundaries of dance music to compile an enviable arsenal of electro kissing house while caressing disco and flirting with techno. Body Language was the ubiquitous hit of 2005 and M.A.N.D.Y.’s Fabric Series three years later cemented their reputation as two of the most captivating selectors on the planet. One of their most recent prestige was a complication for Renaissance in 2009 which was met with tremendous accolades and described by Resident Advisor as “maturity, smarts, and cohesion…that is rare these days.”

Philipp and Patrick know exactly which buttons to press to make that bass jiggle up your spine and seduce your body free. Alongside many lives compadres Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y. has taken some time from their hectic global tour schedule to devise new elaborations, culminating in the release of Body Language Vol. 10 in April 2011. In addition to a single release that will be the first Booka Shade vs. M.A.N.D.Y. cooperation to be heard in years, the boys have closed on a revolutionary touring show that utilizes infrared technology and a new mapping technique to project inverted video effects onto their Physical form as they perform. It is no doubt that their plans for this never before seen live visual component will conjure the kind of visceral excitement that only this duo can. In the feat of the imagination, M.A.N.D.Y. powers on through a perpetual rebirth into pulsating beats and pretty lights.

Few DJs have made such a dramatic impact on the underground house and techno scene over the last two years as Hot Creations label owner Jamie Jones. Jamie and his Hot Natured partner Lee Foss currently spearhead a whole family of like-minded producers that includes Robert James, Russ Yallop, Richy Ahmed and most recently Danny Daze who are currently re-writing the rulebook of how to make evocative and emotive house music.

Jamie Jones has achieved in the space of a few short years what many producers try for a lifetime. Turning his hand to a variety of styles while still maintaining a strong signature sound, Jones has created an admired musical identity and a loyal global following.

One of techno’s rising stars, Jamie Jones is part of a new guard of house and techno djs who resonate as artists, party people, djs, and live acts. Raised in Wales (which most people don’t hold against him), Jamie’s university days in London helped launch his infatuation with club culture that would bring him to Ibiza during the summers.

Ultimately relationships forged and those island summers helped him become an integral cog in thriving music scenes in Ibiza and later East London, where Jones’s bustling djscandance warehouse parties and regular gigs at Fabric helped him make his mark in London during his winters. During the summer, gigs and residencies like the Space Terrace, Manumission’s Music Box Room, and later DC10 (a club he frequented as a one of the first regulars in his early days on the island) helped him gain a foothold in the Ibiza Scene while defining a sound that was uniquely, electronic, soulful, and bouncy, with a consistent groove. During one of these summers in Ibiza, he played his creation Amazon, to Freak n’ Chic boss Dan Ghenacia who signed it on the spot.

Amazon, when released, was well received and immediately drew Jones favorable comparisons to luminaries like Mathew Jonson and Carl Craig and went on to become the labels biggest selling record. Jamie followed that standout release with recordings on leading labels like Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Cocoon, Poker Flat and far too many more to mention. Consistent to his production quality are low wobbly basslines, dissonant and hypnotic keyboard lines, crisp snares, and the aforementioned steady groove.

Since Then, Jamie’s relationship with Crosstown Rebels has grown. 2009 saw him release Summertime EP, which went on to become the labels biggest selling single. He also had the unprecedented accolade of having 3 tracks in the Beatport top 10 concurrently. His Debut album ‘don’t you remember the future’ also on Rebels has been hailed by Press and Dance Music critics across the globe as the best electronic album of the year.

In 2009 I released my debut Album “Dont you remember the future” which has been one of the biggest dance albums of the year.

Resident Advisor: Maya Jane Coles
About, Biography, Events, Charts, Tracks, DJ Feed, Photos, RA News, RA Editorial

2010 has certainly been the year that 23 year old Maya Jane Coles announced herself as one of the most talented up and coming artists in electronic music.

In the years preceding a steady output of techy cuts on labels such as Dogmatik and 1trax simmered away catching the attention of cluded up heads and savy A&R people alike. It was her debut EP on Franck Roger’s Real Tone though that ignited the fire of hype and boosted her profile on the global stage receiving heavy support from the house & techno elite. Aside from being hammered repeatedly on the worlds most happening dance floors ‘What They Say’ reached the number 1 spot on across the board; Beatport Deep House Chart No. 1, Tarxsource top download & Resident Advisors most charted tracks for October. It’s safe to say the release won the hearts and heads of fans and critics a like and a landmark year was topped off with a nomination for Best Breakthrough Producer nomination in the DJ Mag Best of British awards.

Not one to fall victim to the pitfalls of being one of the scenes ‘buzz names’, Maya has built on her flourishing reputation with a slew of gigs across Europe holding her own alongside world renounced DJs. So much so her schedule for 2011 is already jam packed with dates across Europe; London’s Fabric, Batofar, Watergate, not to mention iconic Glastonbury Festival, just a few of the destinations.

Maya’s productions take’s influence from a diverse range of musical styles and British – Japanese heritage. Her talents are by no means confided to realms of house and techno. Under the guise of her live dub/electronica outfit, ‘She Is Danger (alongside the multi-instrumentalist/singer Lena Cullen) she has remixed the likes of Massive Attack and Gorillaz and fans of her Dubstep Product under the name Noctural Sunshine include key tastemakers, Joy Orbison and Sucba to name a few.

As well as her trademark bass heavy approach Maya’s diversity as a producer also shines through in productions under her own name as well. Climbing high in Beatport’s ‘Chillout’ top 100 tracks from her stunning ‘Humming Bird’ EP on Hypercolour showcase her blissful vocals and ability to create songs and not just music for the dance floor. Forthcoming EPs on Anja Schneider’s Mobilee Records and for a number highly anticipated exclusives will no doubt elevate her status even further.

A bright talent with more than a couple of strings to her bow Maya Jane Coles is only just getting started.

About, Biography, Events, Charts, Tracks, DJ Feed, Photos, RA News, RA Editorial

In the decade that has passed since Lee Burridge discovered acid house music, raided the local record shops of Bournemouth and took to the decks, his illustrious DJ career has spanned at least three continents and seen him work alongside some of the England’s most revered DJ’s.

In 1991 the South Coast scene was no match for Lee’s dexterous talents and Hong Kong beckoned with the promise of a residency that would put Hong Kong on the clubbing map. Six years later, the undisputed King of the colony was guesting at most of the big club tour parties in Hong Kong, including Cream, Ministry, Malibu Stacey and Northern Exposure.

In 1993 Lee turned his attentions to the now legendary full moon parties at Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand, with his residency at the back-yard club providing an inspirational alternative to the more standard nights around.

Future projects already promise to launch Lee into the DJing stratosphere and confirm his position as a face to watch on the scene. His residencies at Tyrant, both at The Bomb and Fabric, Golden and Cream continues to provide clubbers with the slick, hard, deep house, trancey, breakbeat sounds they have come to expect from him and his guest appearances at Gatecrasher, Sugarshack, United, Rhumba and Kelly’s Port Rush have introduced his style to club goers all over the country. Last year Lee broadened his DJ diary horizons to take in Thailand, Ireland, South America, Ibiza, Israel and Hong Kong where international club goers have voted with their feet for Lee’s driving progressive style. 2000 will see him play in Greece, Ibiza, the States, Brazil and undertake an Asian tour.

In 1999 Lee honed his studio techniques with the release of his mix CD ‘Metropolis’ (released on Tide), which received the Compilation of The Month thumbs up in Muzik. Future projects in the pipeline include collaborations with Breeder and Hybrid, a break beat track with Andy Page (who previously collaborated with Sasha), and various other remix projects including work for several other labels.

With 1999 already a distant memory, the accolades Lee received – a new entry @ no. 33 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ Poll, Muzik’s DJ Of The Month and Mixmag’s Best Up and Coming DJ, are the perfect platform to consolidate his rise in 2000 with the launch of his monthly Tyrant night with Craig Richards at Fabric and the launch of the Tyrant Compilation series on Distinctive Breaks which will showcase Lee and Craig Richards legendary DJ sets as previously seen at Space in Ibiza and The Bonaparte at the last two Notting Hill Carnivals.

The Tyrant series is set to kick off in May with a series of parties stretching the breadth of the country surrounding the launch dates.

Tale Of Us is Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri.

Both originally hailing from outside of Europe, Karm was born in Toronto and Matteo in New York, they moved to Milan while very young and this is where they met and formed the working bond that they now share. At the moment they are living out of Berlin an inspirational frontier that is allowing them to enlarge their bonds.Their music and productions are a mixture of new sounds and genres ranging from pop to house, nu/disco to rock with everything in between, music that can make people dance feeling their deepest emotions come alive.

The first full debut release of the duo will be out on ‘Visionquest’ (Label of Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves & Lee Curtiss) in Spring 2011 whilst tracks already appear on labels such as ‘Barraca Music’, ‘Cocoon’ and ‘Life & Death’. Various collaborations took place in 2010 alongside fellow ‘Visionquest’ label mates Shaun Reeves & Ryan Crosson for critically acclaimed remixes and EP’s. In particular the Tale Of Us remix on ‘Life & Death’ (Thugfucker – Disco Gnome) has seen them achieve much praise, airplay and success in record sales. Future remixes on the horizon sees the duo try their hand at something totally different with a dynamic remix for an upcoming album of the rock band ‘Who Made Who’ which fuses together both rock and techno whilst managing to create something incredibly raw and interesting.

Karm & Matteo have already played in clubs such as Watergate, Weekend, Privilege, Tenax, Barraca & DC10 and have been throwing secret loft parties in their hometown of Milan, known as ‘Just This’. Such a wide range of clubs already played illustrates the natural talent in both and production and performing, helped in part due to their expansive understanding and knowledge of all variations of music.

Upcoming events will see them perform both Live & DJ sets at locations around the world during WMC at Miami, at Detroit Movement Festival (DEMF),or Sonar Barcellona, they are also officially booked at Klubber’s Day Madrid,Fiesta Privada Rome, Elita Festival Milan and many other quality venues through Europe.

Stay tuned for this growing Tale…

Resident Advisor: Sasha
About, Biography, Events, Charts, Tracks, DJ Feed, Photos, RA News, RA Editorial

The best DJs know that Djing is first about being able to read people and then about being able to tap into that human experience and take it on a journey. Sasha has always been noted for being a master at this, and although his style is described as “Progressive Trance” with a good presence of House and break beat elements; his music has always reached beyond those record store titles, thus separating him from his contemporaries. Sasha creates and plays music that gives emotion a chance to speak. It is this universal appeal that he has tapped into that has established his strong fanbase around the globe.

This ability to capture sounds on a universal level was most recently called upon when he was asked to write all the music for Sony Playstation¹s biggest game release of 1999, “Wipeout 3″. Sasha wrote 5 original tracks to soundscape the game. “Wipeout 3″ won not only the best racing game award, but best game of the whole show.

His special touch has also recently been called upon by The Chemical Brothers, who singled him out as the only artist asked to remix a track (“Out Of Control”) from their new album. “I just dubbed it out to a style like I would play, the elements and sounds that the Chems used were so good that I didn’t want to change them at all”, Sasha reports on making the mix. Sasha’s resume of chart topping remixes also earned him a request from Madonna in 1998 when he was asked to remix “Ray Of Light” and “Substitute For Love/ Drowned World”.

Do not be mistaken, this kind of recognition does not happen overnight. Born and raised in a small town in Wales, Sasha was exposed to Motown records when he was just a baby and it was in the home that his talent for playing the piano was developed. His first exposure to house music was at Manchester’s Hacienda; just as dance music exploded into the summer of love. This impact encouraged his move from Wales to Manchester. His first exploration into Djing was when a DJ in a local pub announced he was looking for people to play club dates. Sasha volunteered and now says that he “had about 30 records and basically just blagged it”.

After honing his deck technique, Sasha’s first big break came when he was offered a residency at Stokes legendary club Shelly¹s. When all the other DJ’s were playing US House, Sasha’s style was much more uplifting, and he encapsulated clubbers with his mixture of piano led Italian House whilst playing acapella tracks over the top. This combination alongside a wide variety of anthems kept dancefloors full and elevated Sasha to hero status.

Shelly¹s was the launch pad for the residency at Renaissance, where Sasha created his niche and helped forge a new style in UK house music. At Renaissance two major things happened; Sasha mixed the first ever UK DJ mix album and he met John Digweed which cemented the partnership known as “Northern Exposure”. Over the past couple of years, Sasha and John have played together on five continents, have mixed 3 “Northern Exposure” albums which have sold to over 1 million people worldwide.

This special brother like relationship that Sasha and Digweed have on the decks, is what landed them the monthly residency at New York¹s “Twilo”, following in the footsteps of Vasquez and Tenaglia. This residency reached cult status in New York, until the closing of Twilo in 2001.

Although Sasha has clearly reached a celebrity status, it¹s his generous personality, his love for his peers and of course his completely candid humour that has enabled him to maintain such a likeable high profile in the often-fickle world of club culture. Always one to share what comes his way, Sasha invited long time friend and collaborator BT to take part in what he called “one of the most amazing musical experiences in my life”. He is referring to his experience out at Peter Gabrielle¹s Real World studio in 1998 where Sasha explains in a mixer article, “we were in there for a week and were just going to do one track (during Real World¹s annual recording week where artists from all over the world are invited to Bath to record at the famous studios). “There were so many talented musicians around and the vibe down there was incredible. People were walking in, hitting things, strumming things, and slapping their goats! There were mad African people everywhere. We ended up recording five tracks and finishing four”.

Since then of course, Sasha has gone from DJ to superstar status in America, where “Sarsha” is a household name for many teenagers and his and John’s residency has continued to provide the launchpad for British dance music into New York and beyond. The sound of Twilo: deep, pumping late night .h.o.u.s.e. is encapsulated on ‘Communicate’, Sasha and John’s joint mix album for INCredible. Modern club anthems like Trancesetters ‘Roaches’ and Trisco’s Muzak all blended in the late night, early morning way that New York’s clubbers have come know and love.

For Sasha, music is his first love, and what gives him a buzz is being able to share his music with others. From his presence at those all too talked about after hour parties where his special impromptu sets are heard, to his signature always present child like antics that leave people wondering if he has modelled his life after Peter Pan, to his DJ sets at clubs around the world, all lined with the backdrop of his own productions, Sasha leaves trails of memories, melodies and stories wherever he goes. These are the things that have been, and will continue to be remembered and passed on for years. And that is what legends are made of.

Resident Advisor: Behrouz
About, Biography, Events, Charts, Tracks, DJ Feed, Photos, RA News, RA Editorial

In today’s world which has become infiltrated with DJs, you find a select few DJs like Behrouz who have managed to reach that top echelon, either through hard work and determination, support from fans and peers, and those that just have that God given gift to rock rooms (be it small or big) around the world for 10 or more plus hours, taking listeners on those unforgettable journeys of different genres of dance music ranging from deep house all the way to techno.

Welcome to Behrouz’s world… From his early days growing up in San Francisco, when San Francisco was considered at the time, the best city in the US for house music and still till this day lives up to its crowning title, you can find some of the best underground clubs. One DJ in particular was chosen to be the main resident DJ for two of the best known clubs at different times. Behrouz held a residency at DV8 for eight years and another eight years at 1015, and the man paid his dues by rocking both rooms each week to a packed house of clubbers ready to dance from open to close and where the motto was always “it’s all about music….”

While being a resident at 1015, Behrouz was snatched by the Deep Dish boys who recognized his talent, while they had a monthly residency with Behrouz at 1015. They chose him to be on their labels Yoshitoshi and Shinichi and added him to their booking agency roster. And from there on, Behrouz didn’t let them or his fans down. It’s been an uphill road which has lead him to become a top notch producer as well. His remix of “Safe From Harm” topped every dance chart and hit #1 on the Billboard’s Dance Chart. His single “What We Do In Life” being chosen to be included in the classic Yoshisque CD compilation and his single “Azab”, being played by all the major DJs and used in many compilations such as Carl Cox’s Fact-Australia CD series, to his 2008 smash hit being crowned by Pete Tong as an Essential New Tune, Behrouz ft The FPI Project, “Rich in Paradise”. 2009 was a big year in the studio for Behrouz releasing hits including “Feeling Good”, “Time Travel” and “Lost in Translation”. 2010 has been one of Behrouz’ busiest years to date. In addition to his endless gigs around the world and new productions, he has also developed Pure Behrouz as a two hour SIRIUS|XM radio show, airing every Saturday night. As well, keep a look out for an abundance of new studio work and his newest compilation Pure Behrouz: San Francisco on Nervous Records in early 2011. Behrouz is truly the DJ’s DJ.

Raising the bar and forging ahead with a unique sound that many have proclaimed as eclectic house with soul, Behrouz’s fame spread to the White Island known as Ibiza and eventually the powers that be from Circo Loco at DC10 asked him to be a guest DJ which lead to him to play for the club for over three years, rocking the room at the peak era of the Circo Loco legendary parties and being chosen to do the closing parties for Circo Loco at DC10 for two years and eventually touring for them all over Italy. At the same time Space Ibiza handpicked Behrouz to do their renowned closing party and he has continued the tradition for the past five years, playing sets with fellow peers and friends such as Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, and Pete Tong, to name a few. Adding to the Ibiza roster, Behrouz was also a resident at Pacha Ibiza for two years in a row for the Yoshitoshi parties and as of 2007, Behrouz has become the resident DJ for the famous Made In Italy parties at Amnesia and abroad. If that’s not enough, gaining notoriety throughout the industry quickly led to Behrouz being nominated for Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2004 Dancestar Awards held yearly in Miami during the Winter Music Conference, nominated for Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2004 DJ Awards in Ibiza and being nominated for Best Resident DJ at the 2005 Club World Awards for his famous Pure Behrouz residency at Ruby Skye in San Francisco.

Embarking on world tours, taking him from Dubai to Brazil, to legendary rooms like Womb in Tokyo, Twilo and Vinyl in NY and festivals like Dance Valley and the Cream festival in Spain, and playing long sets eventually led to the creation of the Pure Behrouz concept that has taken Behrouz’s signature sound to a new level. The whole meaning or direction of the Pure Behrouz night starts with Behrouz playing from open to close, taking his audience on that famous journey of different genres of music, which only a select few can dare to embark upon. As many can attest to, the Pure Behrouz nights have been compared to listening to four separate DJs playing in a club, all in one night. In this day and age where most DJs can play no more than a standard two hour set on their lap top, with Pure Behrouz, you get a pure journey of music, not on a lap top, but through love, vinyls that are handpicked by Behrouz himself around the world and upfront music that most likely you may never get the chance to hear from another DJ. Step into the world of Pure Behrouz!

Through a leaking bodily cavity resembling the pork found in Chinese restaurants, Satan shat out a crystal beaming with glowing red embers. This crystal matured into the fetus of Seth Troxler. Seth was placed on earth as a weeping fetus, the sound of inevitability. As he grew, his ancestral roots took on a magnetic channeling power, more than his feeble mind could ever consciously fathom. As a result, he became capable of creating some of the world’s finest and most intuitive dance cuts, including releases and remixes on Spectral, Wagon Repair, Crosstown Rebels, M_nus, Bpitch Control, Circus Company, Items and Thing, Raum… Musik, FXHE, Esperanza, Leftroom,Adults Only and Beretta Grey. His music has been featured on Audions Fabric mix, The Circo Loco 10 comp mixed by Arpiar, and Matthew Dears new Get Physical compilation.

Seth’s DJ career started in Detroit in 2002 at the age of 16 as a frequent Dj at Detroit club The Works and as a clerk at Detroit’s famous Melodies and Memories record store. With these experiences Seth gained a preternatural understanding of rave, and dance music history, that now allows him to conjours up mixes and tracks like Botticelli conjoured his Venus. He has played many outstanding international gigs, notably Fabric, Tenax, MUTEK, , Panorama Bar, Watergate, Robert Johnson, Detroit Electroinc Music Festival, The Rex, Fuse, Avalon and The End Up. As well as being a resident at Berlin’s legendary Club der Visionäre. Seth is also a bi monthly party host, and resident DJ at Berlin Weekend Club, and Cityfox’s new club Alte Borse in Zurich, w/ friends Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves. Before relocating to Berlin he was also a key conceptual force behind America’s “Tesh Club” parties with partners in crime Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss. Under the name Visionquest, they have hosted the annual “Need is Say More” (old miami) party which has become DEMF’s most anticipated after hours since it’s conception 2006.

His influences include the chirping of crickets, the whirring of space ships, and the sweet sounds of whistling voodoo magic. However, Seth draws the majority of his inspiration from Robert Downey Jr., and the idea of releasing the shackles that bind Downey so he can finally do heroin in peace. Also seth enjoy’s cooking, long walk on the beach and candle lit dinners.

About, Biography, Events, Charts, Tracks, DJ Feed, Photos, RA News, RA Editorial

Guy Gerber has been stirring up electronic audiences with his anthem releases and live shows for quite some time. After countless productions for major labels, dance ensembles and electro rock bands, which earned him many awards and praises, Guy was ready for a major hit.
His universally embraced single on Bedrock Records, Stoppage Time, became the stand out anthem of the year at the likes of Cocoon at Amnesia, and DC 10. The single has surpassed the 5-digit mark in sales and continues to shift by the truckload, and to appear on numerous compilations.

Last summer’s success led to Guy joining the Cocoon family.
First came This Is Balagan, which attracted Sven’s attention to Guy’s unique melodies and production skills. Then came Sea of Sand, collaboration with Shlomi Aber, which appeared on Cocoon’s Compilation F, with its breathtaking memorable melody, that introduced Guy’s production to a wide new range of electronic audiences. When the single came out, accompanied by After Love, Guy was already spotted as the hottest name around.

On New Year’s Eve 2007, Guy introduced to the world his new live show, rocking major events and festivals, such as Time Warp, Blue & Green, WMC SAMC, Sonar, SMS and many more.
His tour included the electronic scene’s most prestigious clubs, such as Fabric London, Panorama Berlin, Bar/Berghain Berlin, Amensia Ibiza, Cocoon Frankfurt, Goa Rome as well as South America and Asia.

While touring with his live show, Guy was busy working on two other projects, which played a major roll in his life:
The first was his album, Late Bloomers, which demonstrates Guy’s vast knowledge of the history of music, was released on Cocoon May 2007, and was supported by a world tour;
The other is Guy’s self imprint, Supplement Facts, now a favorite of some of the biggest DJs around.

An addict to his studio work, Guy continues to work on his follow up album and new releases, while still touring the biggest clubs and festivals in the world.

Resident Advisor: Ryan Crosson
About, Biography, Events, Charts, Tracks, DJ Feed, Photos, RA News, RA Editorial

Ryan Crosson makes house and techno inspired by the historical precedent set in his native city of Detroit and his adopted hometown of Berlin. His musical output is shaped by pioneering artists like Richie Hawtin, Kevin Saunderson and Moodymann in the US, in addition to European heavyweights like Pantytec, Ricardo Villalobos, and Thomas Brinkmann. Situated loosely between these two defining poles, alongside his partners in Visionquest: Shaun Reeves, Seth Troxler and Lee Curtiss, Ryan delivers a obsessive attention to the constant progression of his sound and embodies a ceaseless energy that carries itself from the studio directly into his live set and DJ performances. Whether it’s solo in the studio or as a guiding hand in the Visionquest label and DJ/production partnership, Ryan consistently chooses to steer away from the predictable circuit of so-called “underground” club hits, instead favouring a process of constant renewal, returning both to early influential material and to emerging sounds that depart from well-trodden trends. As a key member of Visionquest, Ryan is responsible for much of the concepting and day to day running of what has rapidly become one of dance music’s most cherished new labels. Between them, Ryan and his partners in Visionquest have honed a whole new landscape of lush, organic techno and more esoteric leftfield electronica, gambling against the predicable to introduce emerging talent like Tale Of Us, Maceo Plex, Footprinz, Laura Jones and Mathew Burton to the record buying public. Their efforts were rewarded when their label was voted number seven in Resident Advisor’s 2011 label poll, no mean feat given that it’s back catalogue has only recently hit double digits.

In the studio, Ryan’s production and sampling practices depart from the world of electronic music by accessing histories of sound, referencing musique concrete, 1970′s funk, and East African jazz. This is best demonstrated by the evolution of his sound from minimal hits like ‘Gotham Road’ and ‘Hopskotch’, through to the organic underground house strains of his ‘Visionquest’ remixes of Kiki’s ‘Good Voodoo’ and more recently via his Visionquest remixes of David Lynch’s ‘Pinky’s Dream’ and Guy Gerber and P Diddy’s forthcoming ‘Eleven Eleven’ project. In addition to dancefloor bombs like ‘You’ve Got Me’ EP on Supplement Facts he’s also capable of conjuring up the haunting cosmic beauty of his recent ‘Birds & Souls’ project on Spectral Sound alongside the genre-busting sonic experiments that make up his recent DRM album collaboration with Cesar Merveille released at the start of the year on Visionquest.

In the past Ryan has released tracks on diverse and groundbreaking labels like m-nus, Telegraph, Trapez, and Wagon Repair and more recently Soma, Spectral Sound and Supplemental Facts. From the outset Ryan immediately gave himself over to a life of touring and performance that keeps a steady focus on both the avant-garde aesthetics and deeply emotional bonds of dance music subculture. Ryan’s back-to-back live sets with Lee Curtiss, at the sold out Visionquest showcase at fabric last year and at Movement in Detroit, stole both these shows boding well for 2012 which will see him repeat his live show at some of the world’s most famous clubs and festivals alongside a packed schedule of DJ gigs, both solo and as part of Visionquest, including his much anticipated new residency at Circo Loco at DC10 this summer.

Tale Of Us have mixed the latest instalment in Renaissance’s The Mix Collection, set for release on March 25, 2013.

The mix series has been going since 1994 when it was inaugurated by Sasha & Digweed with a now legendary three-disc mix. The Berlin-based Italians Tale Of Us are the latest to be given the reins, following in the footsteps of artists such as M.A.N.D.Y and Danny Howells. Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri have found plenty of success since their debut in 2010, landing regular club gigs around the world and making it into the top 20 of our DJ poll in both 2011 and 2012, off the back of just a few releases.

The duo recorded the mix in Mexico shortly after BPM Festival, and it “[looks] back at the year behind us, not concerned so much by genres and boundaries as much as by assembling a musical picture of where we’re at,” according to a quote from the duo in a press release. The two-disc mix is typically varied and alternates between house and techno, featuring Scuba, Roman Flügel, Donato Dozzy and plenty of others.

Resident Advisor: Tale Of Us
About, Biography, Events, Charts, Tracks, DJ Feed, Photos, RA News, RA Editorial
