“On October 17th, the much-anticipated DGTL Paradise will break loose during ADE. Next to Jamie Jones’ tight crew of DJs, some spots were reserved for world-class acts not necessarily connected to the Hot Creations imprint. One of those artists is Sam Geiser, aka Deetron. This Swiss-born DJ/producer has constructed some classic cuts that find the perfect blend between the rough edges of house music and clinical techno. Check out this monster mix from Deetron to get you in the mood for a night of Paradise.”

Born in Bern, music was a constant in the Geiser family home. Sam’s father’s activities as a jazz musician ensured that he was surrounded by music from a very early age, sewing the seeds of his own musical interests. But it was hip-hop that encouraged this to flourish into an active involvement in music, during his teens. Sam soaked-up the music of Gangstarr, A Tribe Called Quest and Prince Paul like a sponge and was quick to realise the role of the turntable within this context, taking up DJing in 1992.
Honing his DJ skill throughout the nineties, it was at the end of that decade that he seriously started to produce his own music. Popping up on labels like Aus, Circus Company and Music Man Records later in his career, he already started to gain attention for his sleek dance floor-focused tracks from the beginning. His first records were the heavily Detroit-influenced Insert Direction EP (1997), Peaceful War EP (1997) and 2nd Fiction EP (1999). In these dated releases one could already catch a glimpse of what was bound to become his signature sound.
Staying creative is one of his trademarks, Deetron says, in both his productions and DJ sets. After earning his fair grip on the dance music world in the last decade or so, Geiser thought this year to be a good time to start releasing music under his own label Character. Character’s first drop was an EP by Deetron and Swiss colleague Ripperton under the name Roots Panorama last September. Another landmark came earlier this summer as well, when he did a mix for the legendary Fabric series.
Behind the decks, Deetron had gained notoriety for his use of three turntables to give an extra dimension to his sets. In his view, he can re-interpret a track much like a remix, but then live in front of an audience. We are keen to see him at work with this setup during DGTL Paradise and his other gig the day before at Verknipt’s ADE Special. With ADE right around the corner, we’re just days away now. But in the meantime you can ease the pain of waiting with this mix by the man himself.
